Use Conditional Elements to evaluate patient data, then determine how workflow activities will be triggered, depending on the results of the evaluation.
Home ribbon bar > Editors > Workflows > Workflows. (You can also search for the editor you want to work with.)
Choose workflow - Click to select the workflow you wish to work with. (See "Set Up Workflows" for details about creating basic workflows.)
Add a conditional element - Use the If conditional element to test patient data. You can then trigger different activities based on whether or not the patient meets the criteria. When you drag the If element onto your Workflow Activities, an Else element automatically appears below it.
Define conditional statements - Click the If element to select it, then open the Conditions activity properties to define the criteria you want to test.
Left properties - In general, you use the Left Properties to choose the type of data you want to evaluate, such as "Patient Age Years". First, select a Variable Type to work with, then define the properties for that variable. The properties available to you depend upon the type of data you have chosen to work with. See "Workflow Variable Types" for details.
Right properties - Use the Right Properties to define how to evaluate your Left Properties. For example, if your Left Properties specify "Patient Age Years", your Right Properties might be the integer "18". Again, the properties available to you will depend upon the Variable Type you choose to work with. See "Workflow Variable Types" for details.
Operator - Click the Operator field and choose the mathematical operator to use to evaluate the Left Properties against the Right Properties.
Review completed statement - Once you have set up the Left Properties, Right Properties, and Operator, review your completed statement to be sure the criteria will be tested accurately.
Add / remove statements - Click New to add another conditional statement to your element, or Delete to remove the currently selected statement. Note that a patient must satisfy all statements before the workflow activity will be triggered.
Save & exit - Click Ok to close the Condition Editor window.
Re-order activities - In most cases, you must drag and drop items in the Workflow Activities list to re-order them once a Conditional Element has been added, so that activities will be triggered according to whether or not they meet the element's criteria.
If you want an activity to occur when your conditional element is true, drag that activity directly onto the If statement. The activity will then appear indented below the If. Likewise, if you want an activity to occur when your conditional element is false, drag that activity directly onto the Else statement. Activities that you want to occur regardless of the conditional element can be either above the If statement, or below the Else statement. Just be sure an activity that you list below the Else is at the same level as the Else, and not indented.
To be sure an activity is not part of the conditional element, click the VCollapse arrows beside your If and Else statements to hide the conditional activities. Only the activities that will occur in all instances will remain visible.
Save Changes Click
Save in your Quick Access toolbar or File ribbon bar (or press Ctrl+S on your keyboard) to save any changes you have made.
Assign - Use the Assign conditional element to define the contents of a variable for use within a specific workflow activity. See "Assign Workflow Variable Contents" for details.
