Log in / Log out

It is important to log into Edge with your own operator account: Your account contains settings specific to your responsibilities and preferences. In addition, Edge maintains records of the actions performed by each operator logged into the system. We also suggest you log out each time you step away from your workstation to prevent others from using your account.

Get Started

Obtain Edge operator account - Each person that uses Edge must have an account in order to log into the system. See "Set Up Operator Accounts" for details.

How to Get Here

While Edge is loaded on your workstation, you can log in and out without exiting and re-entering the system.

Home Ribbon Bar - Change Login.

Keyboard Shortcut - Press Ctrl-L on your keyboard from any Edge window.

Use This Feature

Enter Credentials - (Required.) To identify yourself, type your user name and password in the log in fields, or touch the fingerprint sensor. Note that Edge passwords are case-sensitive. (See "Acquire Staff Fingerprints" for details about using fingerprints to access your system.)

Additional Details - (Optional.) You may want to expand the server details button on the login window to display all the available options, detailed below.

Complete Log In - After entering your credentials, click Login at the bottom of the log in window to continue to your Edge system. The active database and user name appears in the title bar of at the top of your screen.  This will help offices with multiple databases and workstations see at a glance who is logged onto which station. You can optionally include a photo of the current operator at the right side of your Edge window. See "Set Up General User Options" for details.

Log Out - We suggest you click Change Login to return your workstation to the log in dialog whenever you step away from your desk so that no one else can use your account. Or, set up your computer to automatically log you out of Edge after a certain period of inactivity. (See "Set Up General User Options" for details.)

Notice!

Change Password Regularly - We suggest you change your password regularly to maintain the integrity of your security system. See "Change Your Password" for details. In addition, you can require that operators change their password at regular intervals. See "Force Password Change" for details.

Sessions widget - Use the Sessions widget to review the operators logged into your Edge system. The widget includes the operator name, machine name and IP address, the version of Edge that is running, and the date and time the user logged in. See "Sessions Widget" for details.

Security model - Each operator account must be assigned to a security model. The assigned model determines the level of access this operator will have for viewing and changing Edge data. Note that you MUST assign the user a security model before that user can perform even basic actions in Edge.See "Set Up Security Access" for details.

Limit access by office - You can assign each operator account to one or more specific offices, thus providing further data security, as the operator will only have access to the data from assigned offices. (Note that you can also assign specific assistants and orthodontists to offices, further limiting an operator's security access.) See "Set Up Operator Accounts" for details.
